'Sleeper'
John Mainwaring, Charcoal on Paper
In the last few weeks the life drawing group (which I go to on Tuesday mornings, and which we hold in a room in the library building in Ruthin), had a small show in the library exhibition space.
The works were selected democratically, (i.e., everyone brought along a few drawings and the group collectively selected a couple of drawings by each participant).
I enjoyed seeing so many good pieces, and I particularly liked the variety of approaches by the group members. This variety is obviously a result the way the group organises itself, with no leader or tutor. So no uniform briefs are set, - everyone has their own objectives.
John's picture (above) of the 'Sleeper' is, I think, very strong and direct, his lines are confident and I admire the way he always considers (either consciously or intuitively) the composition.
But, hey, it's not my place to comment, so I'll just show you some of the other work and you can see what you think.
