Recently Mari and I drove down to Tredager, in the South Wales valleys to go to the private view of the 'Discover the Valleys' project*. It was a good chance to meet some of the other painters who took part in the project, and to see their work in the flesh.

I was extremely impressed by the quality of the paintings. And although they were done in a variety of styles, which can sometimes mean that some of them may not appeal to me personally, I found all of them to be impressive in their own terms. So the selectors (those responsible for selecting the group of artists) obviously did a really good job. I understand that there were 160 artists who were seriously considered, (from which ten were chosen).

Surprisingly, mine was the only one which was done with a straightforward 'realist' approach (although all of the pictures are what could broadly be termed 'figurative', in that they dealt with the real world, however far they moved towards semi-abstraction).

I hear the exhibition will be moving elsewhere, so try and see it if you can!

*the project was funded through Valleys Regional Park’ Interreg WECAN project and the Arts Council of Wales.
