'Late Afternoon, Ogmore Vale'
For the last several weeks I've been working on this painting of Ogmore Vale in South Wales. It was done as part of a project* run by Groundwork Wales (on behalf of Valleys Regional Park) called 'Discover the Valleys'.
The project aims to create, using ten chosen artists, a set of ten works, which will be turned into commercial posters, with the intention of promoting the Valleys environment. The whole project was inspired by the old Shell-advertising campaigns, which started in the 1930's.
I went down to stay in Cardiff with my brother-in-law for a time, so I could visit Ogmore, get some research work done, and get a 'feel' for the area. (Although I'd been to the valleys many times, I'd never been to Ogmore Vale itself).
Here are a couple of the sketches for the picture.

Since completing the painting, I sent a photo of the image to the project team, and they asked for one small change (i.e., lose the sheep in the foreground), which I have done.
So now I look forward to seeing the picture as a poster wherever it appears!
* the project was funded through Valleys Regional Park’ Interreg WECAN project and the Arts Council of Wales.
